After a severe setback caused by a fire at the Wuppertal Vohwinkel site, Walther undergoes a phase of reorientation in the 1980s. Additionally, the company faces financial difficulties due to the acceptance and realization of costly large projects. In response, a team of 16 individuals, including former employees, customers, and suppliers, decides on a management buyout. They take over the company by providing the share capital of DM 1.25 million for a new company from their private assets and revitalize it economically. They realign the company and secure the continuity of production and the Walther Pilot brand with 75 dedicated employees.
On 22 October 1987, the company officially changes its name from "R. C. Walther GmbH & Co. KG" to "Walther Spritz- und Lackiersysteme GmbH” and thereby represents the reestablishment of the company.
