Challenges as an Opportunity for a Promising New Beginning

After a severe setback caused by a fire at the Wuppertal Vohwinkel site, Walther undergoes a phase of reorientation in the 1980s. Additionally, the company faces financial difficulties due to the acceptance and realization of costly large projects. In response, a team of 16 individuals, including former employees, customers, and suppliers, decides on a management buyout. They take over the company by providing the share capital of DM 1.25 million for a new company from their private assets and revitalize it economically. They realign the company and secure the continuity of production and the Walther Pilot brand with 75 dedicated employees.

On 22 October 1987, the company officially changes its name from "R. C. Walther GmbH & Co. KG" to "Walther Spritz- und Lackiersysteme GmbH” and thereby represents the reestablishment of the company.

In future, the Wuppertal site concentrates exclusively on spray gun production and the company's administration. Tank construction and spray booth manufacturing are completely relocated to the Struthütten plant. Alongside organizational changes, this also manifests the focus on modern spray and coating technologies.

Moreover, Walther ventures into the promising field of marking technology, following the technological trends of the 1980s, in which achievements such as the increased use of robots shape the coating industry. With this smart move, Walther positions itself as an innovator in an emerging submarket and helps to successfully lead the company into the next era as well as quickly recover from operational challenges.
